Is the water here different from the surrounding area?
In where it comes from, yes. A large share of the supply is local groundwater recovered and treated inside the city rather than imported from a long way off. The practical question for a household is mineral content, because that is what builds scale in a water heater and shortens the life of fixture cartridges. If you are unsure what yours is doing, the water heater usually tells you first.

The shutoff is somewhere out by the road. Should I find it first?
If you can do it safely, yes, and it is worth locating before you ever need it. On a larger parcel the main can be a long way from the house, and the time spent hunting for it is time a burst line keeps running. If you cannot find it, call anyway and close the nearest fixture valve you can reach.
Do you work on septic systems?
No. Septic tanks and leach fields belong to a septic contractor, along with wells and irrigation. We work everything on the house side, and if a drain problem turns out to sit past the house we will tell you plainly rather than keep going.
