No, and it changes the parts list. An exterior cabinet has its own venting, clearance and weather requirements, and an install from the older core often predates them. We check what the space allows before quoting, because the honest answer is sometimes that a like-for-like swap will not pass and the unit needs moving.
The heater is old. Should we be looking at the gas line behind it too?
It is worth a look. An install from the older part of town usually has a gas connection of the same vintage behind it, and a corroded or undersized line is what turns one job into two. Gas work is pressure-tested and inspected, and anything we find goes in the written estimate rather than surfacing halfway through.
Does the sediment explain why our hot water runs out faster than it used to?

How do we know the anode is spent without taking the heater apart?
