San Diego Drain Cleaning
Slow drain, backed-up sink, a main line that keeps clogging? All Star Plumbing clears San Diego drains the right way for the pipe. We match the method to the clog and the line, cabling or hydro jetting based on what it needs and what the pipe can take. When the cause isn't clear, we camera the line to find it. $0 service call, a free written estimate before any work, and a 60-minute response when a drain is actively backing up.

We clear the clog and clean the line. If the line turns out to be damaged or collapsed, that’s a sewer line repair, and we’ll show you what we find rather than jet a pipe that can’t take it.
How we clear a San Diego drain the right way
A clog is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Running a cable blind can punch a hole through the blockage and leave the cause behind, so it’s back in a week. When the cause isn’t obvious, we camera the line to see what’s actually there: grease, roots, a foreign object, or a low spot in the pipe. Then we clear it the right way.
San Diego gives drains two specific problems. Mature neighborhoods have older sewer laterals that tree roots find their way into, which is the number one reason a main line keeps backing up. And the same hard water that scales up water heaters leaves scale in the lines. When the cause isn’t clear, a camera tells us which one we’re dealing with before anything gets turned on.
A camera does one more thing when we use it: it tells us whether the pipe can take a hydro jet. On sound PVC, ABS, or cast iron, jetting scours the line back to full diameter. On old, fragile pipe, a jet can do damage, so a cable is the safer call. Matching the method to the pipe is the whole point, and when the pipe’s condition is in doubt, we check before we jet.

Find the Cause First
We find the real cause and confirm the pipe can take the method, using a camera when the cause isn't clear. No guessing, no blind cabling.
Cable or Hydro Jet
A cable for a single localized clog, a hydro jet for grease, roots, and recurring buildup, chosen for the pipe.
Drains we clear across San Diego
Kitchen, bath, or main line, the method follows the diagnosis. We cable or jet based on what the line needs and what the pipe can handle, and camera it when the cause isn't clear.
Kitchen Drain & Grease
Grease is the one thing a cable can't really beat: it slips through and the line narrows again in weeks. For a grease-packed kitchen line, a hydro jet strips the walls clean and it stays clear.
- Hydro jetting for grease
- Cabling for a simple clog
- Camera check when the cause isn't clear
Bathroom Sink, Tub & Shower
Hair and soap scum are the usual bathroom culprits. We cable the line and clear it fully, not just poke a hole through so the water drains today and clogs again next month.
- Hair and soap-scum clogs
- Cleared fully, not partially
- Trap and branch-line service
Toilet & Branch Lines
A toilet that backs up on its own is usually a local clog or a foreign object. When several fixtures back up together, it points past the toilet to the main line, and we scope it.
- Toilet and branch-line clogs
- Foreign-object removal
- Escalate to the main if needed
Main Line & Sewer Backup
Sewage at the lowest drain, or gurgling across the house, points to the main line. On a main line we usually camera it, then cable or jet it, and tell you honestly whether it just needed cleaning or points to a repair.
- Sewer camera inspection
- Cable auger or hydro jet
- Cleanout access and locate
Recurring & Slow Drains
A drain that keeps clogging isn't bad luck, it's something a cable won't remove: roots, grease, or a low spot in the pipe. A camera finds it when the cause isn't clear, so we fix the cause, not the symptom.
- Diagnosis of the real cause
- Root and grease removal
- Honest read on what's next
Hydro Jetting
High-pressure water scours the pipe back to full diameter: grease, roots, and scale, gone. When the pipe's condition is in doubt, we camera it first to confirm it's sound enough, because a jet isn't right for every line.
- Full-diameter cleaning
- Grease, roots, and scale
- Only on pipe that can take it
How we clear a San Diego drain.
The order matters. Clearing a drain without knowing the cause is how a clog comes back and how a fragile pipe gets damaged. So we look first, then choose the method for the line in front of us.
Diagnose, choose the method, clear, and confirm. The service call to come out is $0.
Find the cause
We identify the real cause and where it sits: grease, roots, an object, or a low spot. When it isn't clear from the fixtures, or on a main-line call, we run a camera, which also tells us whether the pipe is sound enough for a hydro jet.
Choose the method for the pipe
A cable for a single localized clog and for older, fragile pipe. A hydro jet for grease, roots, and recurring buildup on pipe that can take the pressure. We match the tool to the line, not the other way around.
Clear it fully
Cable to break and pull the blockage, or jet to scour the walls back to full diameter. Either way the goal is a line that's actually clean, not one that drains today and clogs again next month.
Confirm it's clear
We confirm the line is open, and when we've used a camera we scope it again to show you the result. If we find a damaged line, we tell you honestly and price the repair separately.
Why does my San Diego drain keep clogging?
A one-off clog is normal. A drain that clogs again and again is telling you something a plunger and a store-bought bottle won't fix.
Here's what's usually behind it.
Tree roots in the line.
In older San Diego neighborhoods, roots work into the sewer lateral through tiny gaps. They regrow, so the clog keeps returning until the roots are cut out and the line is checked.
Grease in the kitchen line.
Grease coats the pipe and narrows it. A cable passes through and it re-clogs within weeks. Jetting is what actually strips it off the walls.
A low spot in the pipe.
A belly in the line holds water and debris, so it clogs no matter how often it's cleared. A camera shows it, and it's a repair, not a cleaning.
You've been using chemical drain cleaner.
Those caustic cleaners corrode the pipe with repeated use and rarely clear the real cause. We'd rather find the cause than keep pouring product on it.
Hard-water scale.
San Diego's hard water leaves scale inside the lines over time, narrowing them. Jetting clears scale on pipe that can take the pressure.
It backs up at the lowest drain.
When the lowest fixture in the house backs up, or several back up at once, the clog is in the main line, not one fixture. On the main line we usually scope and clear.

What does San Diego drain cleaning cost?
A simple, accessible clog is a smaller job than a grease-packed main line that needs jetting and a camera scope. We can't put a number on it from a website. But we can tell you what drives it, and the service call to come out and look is always $0.
What moves a drain job up or down
Cable vs. hydro jet
A cable clears a single localized clog and is the smaller job. A hydro jet for grease, roots, or recurring buildup is more, because it does more: it scours the whole pipe, not just the blockage.
Where the clog is and how you get to it
A clog at an accessible cleanout is quick. One deep in the main line, or with no easy cleanout access, takes longer to reach and to clear.
What's actually causing it
A soft clog clears fast. Roots or heavy grease take more work, and a camera scope to confirm the cause and the result. We tell you which one you've got at diagnosis.
Whether it points to a repair
Sometimes the camera shows the line is damaged or has a belly. That's a separate sewer repair, priced on its own, not bundled into a cleaning that won't hold.
Snake or hydro jet, which does my drain need?
It depends on the clog and the pipe. A cable is quick and right for a single localized clog, and safer on older, fragile pipe. A hydro jet handles grease, roots, or a drain that keeps clogging, scouring the whole line instead of punching through the blockage. When the right method isn’t obvious, we camera the line to see it, so it’s a decision, not a guess.
Is hydro jetting safe for my pipes?
On sound PVC, ABS, or good cast iron, yes, it cleans them back to full diameter without harm. On old clay, Orangeburg, or badly corroded pipe, high pressure can cause damage, so a cable is safer there. When the pipe’s condition is in doubt, we camera the line before jetting. We won’t jet a pipe that can’t take it.
Why does my drain keep clogging after I clear it?
A clog that keeps coming back means something a cable or a store-bought cleaner won’t remove. Usually that’s tree roots, built-up grease, or a low spot that holds debris. A camera finds which one it is when the cause isn’t clear, so we fix the cause instead of clearing the same symptom every few weeks.
Are chemical drain cleaners bad for my pipes?
With repeated use, yes. Those cleaners are caustic and corrode both metal and plastic pipe over time, and they give off harsh fumes. They also rarely clear the real cause, so the clog returns. We’d rather find what’s actually causing it, with a camera when needed, and clear it properly.
My kitchen sink keeps clogging. What's going on?
Almost always grease. It coats the inside of the line and narrows it, and a cable slips right through without removing it, so it re-clogs within weeks. A hydro jet strips the grease off the pipe walls and it stays clear. We’ll confirm the pipe is sound, with a camera when its condition is in doubt, and jet it.
Do you use a camera on every drain?
Not always. On a main-line or recurring clog we usually do, because it’s the best way to see the real cause and to confirm the pipe can take a jet. On a simple, single-fixture clog we may just cable it, and only scope it if it comes back. We’d rather look than guess when the cause isn’t clear.
Several drains are backing up at once. Is that different?
Yes. One slow fixture is usually a local clog. When several back up together, or sewage rises at the lowest drain, the problem is in the main line, not one fixture. We usually scope the main, clear it, and tell you honestly whether it just needed cleaning or points to a repair.
How often should a drain be cleaned?
For most homes it’s as-needed rather than on a schedule. If you’ve had repeat clogs, roots in the line, or a grease-prone kitchen drain, a periodic jetting keeps it ahead of the next backup. We’ll give you an honest interval based on what we find, not a subscription you don’t need.
Clogged or slow drain in San Diego? We'll scope it first.
A local tech, a $0 service call, and a written estimate before any work. We match the method to the line, cabling or jetting for what it actually needs, and camera it when the cause isn't clear.
